Henry: Celebrating 17 months!

I ended Henry's 17 month birthday by letting his head hit the side of the curio cabinet as we were playing. Luckily, he is quick to bounce back from about any bump he gets. I'm still carrying the guilt.

It was picture day at daycare last week. I think Henry heard "say cheese" a few times. Since picture day, nearly anytime we hold a camera in front of him and exaggerate "say cheese" he gets a cheesy little grin on his face.

Henry can point out his nose, ears, and toes but has a hard time maintaining focus beyond that. He is starting to assist a little more with getting dressed and undressed. He likes getting his shoes on since he knows that means he'll get to go somewhere soon.

His verbal skills may not have developed much but he does try to communicate other ways. If everything else fails a good scream will usually get our attention. A few weeks ago when I was laying on my back it seemed as though he was trying to help me get up by walking behind me and trying to push my shoulders up so I'd get up.

Henry's teeth count remains at 4. We finally have started to introduce a toothbrush . . .and he immediately starts brushing his hair with it each time. He does not like to give it up. He likes holding something in his hands and will grip something for quite awhile.

He likes to practice using a fork and spoon and is getting better at feeding himself. Found out the other night he does not like green beans as he picked up a bean and threw it without trying it. He is a meat and (mashed) potato kind of guy AND he has a definite sweet tooth.

Henry has had a busy week. We spent time Monday morning at an asthma/allergy clinic as a result of wheezing issues a few weeks ago. On a whim I asked the pediatrician if we should see an allergist and he gave me a card for one. After talking to the nurse briefly about Henry's history we had an appointment. The actual appointment didn't yield any surprise results. The doctor did a brief exam and did not hear any wheezing/breathing issues. They did test for indoor dust and molds. All tests came back negative. The doctor changed a few things if we have wheezing issues again. He did ask if we had done a chest xray yet which we had not. On Wednesday we visited the medical imaging center for a chest xray. Within 4 hours I received a call back from the doctor's office. The nurse let me know Henry has inflammation in his lungs vs. asthma so he is on an antibiotic for 14 days as well as a breathing treatment of Pulmicort once a day for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks Henry will get another xray to see if the inflammation is gone.
