Dinosaurs & Disasters!

Morrill Hall held an event back on Saturday, February 2.  The perfect day to break out of the house and leave January behind!  "Dinosaurs & Disasters" stations greeted us throughout the Museum.  After a few stops Henry found a coloring table that held his attention for awhile.  Ralph took more of an interest in what the college students had to show, demonstrate, and share.  He enjoyed looking in the microscopes.  I am not sure what he understood or comprehended but appreciate that he listened attentively and participated in what was asked of him.

No trip to Morrill Hall is complete without digging for bones, smelling scents, and building a tower in the Discovery Center, by far the favorite stop for both boys.

It was great to see the Museum busy and full of activity though we'll have to go back sometime when we can enjoy it more to ourselves!

"Nothing Happens in January?!"

The old cliché “nothing happens in January” rang true at our house.  We went into hibernation for month in an attempt to stay healthy and well.  Outside of daycare, church, and grandma & grandpa’s the boys did not venture too far.   Who knows if it helped but outside of a slight cold for both boys earlier in January, everyone stayed well!   The boys have enjoyed their weekends (or “stay home days” as Ralph calls them).  It provided a nice reprieve from the hectic days of December and a chance to enjoy their Christmas gifts though it doesn't take long for imagination to take hold.  One morning they put all their blankets and sheets on the landing in the stairway and kept jumping on them then they and made it their bed.  They would have slid down the stairs if I would have let them.  A few other times they made forts with some blankets and chairs . . .and a little help.  Another time they had a little too much fun with cups in the bathroom sink.  here is nothing better than watching them learn, grow, mimic, and feed off of each other.  They are each others best friend and worst enemy.  Every once in awhile I'd hear a bit of tattling but they are mostly partners in crime.  Ralph has already figured out that he wants more stay home days and less go to school days.  Why are there only two stay home days??
There are a few exceptions to our attempting to live in a bubble.  Ralph started a basketball clinic earlier in the month.  It lasts 10 weeks and works on fundamentals. Since he is with “older kids” – kindergarten and up, I am sparing him from being THAT mom and taking photos.  I may take some the last day but am resisting until then.  It is not as parent involved as Itty Bitty Sports and I am respecting the coaches and trying to not be a disruption.   No, it's more a daddy and son activity and I usually stay home and try to catch on other chores.

I have also started a taking photography class that eats up one evening a week.  We are also mainly working on fundamentals and principles and have not hardly touched our cameras yet.  No matter how good the camera is, if I don't know how to use it it does not do much good!   Of course (and apparently), it can not all be learned in one quarter and I have signed on to take Photography 2.

Henry made sure to make his own mark in January.  On the 28th I get a call from daycare (those are not usually good calls) that he ran into the wall, they thought he would be fine but wanted to give him Tylenol which we'd need to drop off.  I let Mike be in charge of that adventure.  He said it was probably a good thing I didn't see him.  Henry was playing in the gym with friends and was spinning around and lost sense of where he was vs the wall and run smack into the wall.  The photo was taken that same evening, by morning the swelling had subsided but the area turned all colors that week.
