Easter Events!

Last weekend the boys and I went to Grandma & Grandpa's church for an Easter Egg Hunt. Henry was a little timid (or tired) and wanted held most of the time. He did help with picking up eggs after he was placed on the ground but was not too interested in the carnival games going on inside the Family Life Center. Ralph was willing to go around and wait his turn in line, evening letting me know when I could take his photo. Luckily he let me snap this one of him in the bunny cutout.

The boys dyed Easter Eggs at Grandma & Grandpa's Friday night and finished up Saturday morning.

This morning we got all dressed up for Easter service. We do not have a tripod nor do I know how to use the timer so Mike & I took turns getting our photos with the boys. It's amazing how much time it takes to get everything done in the morning so we asked the Easter Bunny to wait to deliver the eggs, even so we left a little later than hoped but still plenty of time to spare.

The Easter Bunny stopped by while we were at church. We stalled a bit waiting for Grandma & Grandpa to arrive and the boys thought it was fun to put their Easter baskets on their heads like hats. and run around.

While we were still waiting the boys spied Easter eggs in their tennis shoes and thought it was very funny. They stopped playing and just smiled and pointed.

We had lunch at Grandma & Grandpa's and while the boys napped the Easter Bunny stopped by. Luckily the weather was nicer by the time they woke up though there was still a little wind (when isn't there?). They both did a great job running around collecting eggs - it was a little funny to watch. They had a bit of tunnel vision. They'd spot an egg and take off running but not notice a closer one that was off to the side a bit. After the hunt we went back inside and they inspected a few Easter baskets.

All in all, a great Easter!

Henry: Celebrating 28 months!

The letter B seems to be a common theme this month!

Basketball. Henry is a basketball nut. The boys have an indoor over-the-door hoop and Henry likes to be lifted up to make a basket. The boys also have a small outdoor kid-sized hoop they have been playing with lately . . .and last night Henry pulled out the little baby hoop that was hidden behind some other toys. The other week he allowed a break from an Elmo DVD during a breathing treatment to watch basketball. He has requested it for other breathing treatments but unfortunately its hard to find basketball at 7 am with the limited cable channels we have.

Boxes. The boy loves boxes, especially the ones that are just big enough for him to climb in and sit down. Being a small guy, it doesn’t take a very big box. The other night he crawled in a box and declared it a choo-choo.

Black (and other colors). We are quizzing Henry on colors every chance we get. For the most part he is quick to name a color when asked but it is usually not the correct color. The number of colors he knows is expanding.

B-I-N-G-O.
The "o" song has been added to the song list, as in B-I-N-G-O. Henry likes to sing along at bedtime which prohibits me from slowing down songs to seem more like lullabies but it is cute to listen to him sing.

Boss. We must not forget Henry is 2 and believes he should be the boss . . . Ask him if he wants milk/snack/etc and he says no. Seconds later he comes up and demands milk/snack/etc. He is way to quick to say no as a response to nearly everything. We are working on saying “yes” more, along with please. The biting reports have decreased in the past month – there may have been one.

Bribery & the Bathroom. Daycare is lot more willing to use bribery, I mean reward, for going potty on the potty. Henry is still not the most willing participant. Yesterday he went potty on the potty in the morning and I decided to go with the reward of M&M's but then he requested marshmallows . . .then he wanted Skittles. I think he's got a little sweet tooth!

Big Boy. Henry likes to walk up and down the stairs, sometimes holding on the railing/wall . . sometimes not. I just hold my breathe and hope the the best. When he accomplishes a tasks he's been working on he says "I got it." He can't take his socks off yet but give it a try. He's getting better at pulling up the front of his pants.

Birdy. Parakeet might be more appropriate but it does not start with a B. Henry likes to repeat words, sentences, and other remarks. I have heard him say “booty” a few times and can only guess that’s from daycare. One night at home someone said “let’s go upstairs Wichman boys” and I heard a little echo of “stairs Wichman boys” in his own words. He will say Henry more voluntarily, sometimes Henry Wichman . .and sometimes Henry John Wichman if you listen closely. He will also echo words while we are trying to discipline Ralph. He still leaves off a sound or two on most words but at least his words have increased.

Bumps, Bruises, and Boo-boos. This month’s most noteable boo-boo is an unfortunate finger meets door incident. It happened just over two weeks ago and the fingernail is getting closer to falling off. He also had an incident earlier this month when he slightly ran into Ralph outside. The wind was a contributing factor, giving him a gentle push along our walk. When he and Ralph bumped into each other Henry had enough inertia he fell and scraped up his knee a bit. For days following the incident almost everytime he’d look at his knee he’d say “I just fall down” while raising his eyebrows. "I just fall down" has turned into a routine response when asked about a new scrape.
