Ralph: Boy Scout Camp!

Ralph spent the 3rd week of June attending his 1st boy scout week-long camp.  His Troop attends Camp Cornhusker (near Humboldt) every other year and in the other year they go to an out of council camp - this year was the "other year" to go to an out of council camp - this one was Camp Cris Dobbins near Elbert, Colorado.

The Troop left Saturday, June 15 mid afternoon and traveled to North Platte where they earned their Railroading Merit Badge thanks to a representative of the Union Pacific coming to talk to them along with a visit to the Golden Spike attraction.

The trek to Elbert was finished around 1:15 pm on Sunday, June 16. . . Everyone was checked in and the paperwork was completed.  The camp site host led everyone to a few stops and on to their campsite - Sillwater.

The sessions began on Monday morning.  Ralph and Malcolm had the same sessions: Canoeing, Swimming, 1st Aid, and Orienteering.

Ralph also participated in the Polar Penguin Swim.  Three of out 4 of the mornings he jumped in the water (2 days were in the lake; the 1st day was in the pool as we missed the change in time).

Josh the camp site host stopped by one morning to play games with the Troop.

There was a theme at the camp this year relating to gold . . . Ralph struck "gold" one night (this is his look of hard work - or something?)

It was a long ride home Saturday, June 22.

I was fortunate enough to also attend my 1st boy scout camp.  When people ask how it was my usual response was "it wasn't the worst thing I've done."
