Kansas City 2022

Taking advantage of one of the few open weeks of the summer we ventured to Kansas City for a few days.

Sunday, May 29

Wanting to give the boys a new experience I ran across iFly/an indoor skydiving place.  The session the boys were in had five other people.  After viewing a training video that showed the hand signals the instructor could use in the wind tunnel, everyone got suited up with a flight suit, safety glasses, and helmet.  Each person would fly twice - rotating through each person in the group with a 60 second flight each.  The boys experienced all the emotions but each had fun.

From iFly we went to Liberty Jail . . .one of the few places somewhat near the hotel that was still open on a late Sunday afternoon.  Liberty Jail is a reconstruction of a jail where the Prophet Joseph Smith of the Latter-Day Saints received divine revelations of comfort in March 1938.

Monday, May 30

We had the opportunity to visit Mike's Aunt Marilyn and cousin Randy in the morning then traveled to the Battle of Lexington State Historic Site.  We were able to watch a video, visit the visitors center, and view the Anderson House which has bullet holes in it.  The House was closed due to the holiday.  We then made it to the Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site in time for the last tour of three-story woolen mill which has been preserved to give visitors a sense of life in the 1870's.  The mill is the only 19th century textile mill in the US with its original machinery still intact.  Unfortunately we were not able to spend time in the visitor center as it was closing by the time our tour ended.

Tuesday, May 31

Tuesday morning was spent at the National World War 1 Museum.  It was overwhelming to look at all the various pistols, rifles, and grenades the different countries had.   It was overwhelming to learn about the people and how their lives where affected.  It was overwhelming.  Luckily the rain that started overnight stopped about the time the Museum opened; closer to 1 pm we made it to the Liberty Memorial Tower  - a 217' high open-air observation deck.  The top is reach by riding an elevator and climbing 45 steps.

After a quick lunch we made it to the Money Museum at the Federal Reserve.  We had about an hour to spend in the Museum before it closed.

Our hotel this night was within walking distance of Dave & Busters so after a few days of much learning the boys had some time to play games.   Ralph had requested ice cream the day before and there was a unique ice cream shop nearby for dessert - Subzero Nitrogen Ice Cream.  After putting cream, flavor, and a mix-in in a bowl liquid nitrogen is added and blended with the liquid ingredients until it becomes a frozen treat.

Wednesday

Wednesday morning was spent visiting with Mike's Aunt Marcia and cousin Laura before heading back to Lincoln.

Yearly Check-Ups

The boys first morning of summer break was spent getting their yearly check-ups.  Sports physicals for school need to be completed after May 1; camp physicals need to be done in May.  Henry also needed a fasting cholesterol check since his nonfasting one was a bit high last year . . . so we go the 1st appointment of the day at 9 am.

In addition to getting a blood sample for the cholesterol check Henry also received a his HPV immunization.  He measured 58" (27%) and weighed in at 75.5 pounds (12%) giving him a BMI of 15.8 (12%).

Ralph measured 69.5" (93%) and weighed 128.7 pounds (72%) giving him a BMI of 18.7 (42%).

Nothing noteworthy overall.
