1st day of School 2017-2018

Last Thursday we visited the boys' classrooms for the new year and met their teachers.  The format was a bit different this year with a meeting in the gym for the whole grade then disbursing to the classroom.  It was nice to see all the teachers in each of the boys' grades and learn a bit more about what will happen in that grade.  Henry will use a chrome book in 2nd grade (whereas Ralph didn't start using one until 3rd grade.  Ralph will have a student planner that goes home every night and someone has to sign off with their whole name and not initials . . .because those are easier to copy.  Oh, the joys.

At back to school night both boys' desks were in the front row (Henry found out today he has been moved to the back row).  Ralph is sitted next to the projector with no students near him . . . I have not decided if it was so he could help use the projector or if he needs to not be near other students . . or that's just how it worked out and there's really no meaning behind it.

The weeks leading up to school were noneventful and this morning went so much more smoothly than last year for a certain young man.  This morning started out rainy - luckily the rain stopped and outside pictures were possible.  Ralph is getting tall enough his head is starting to cover the numbers!

Rita's was the choice for the after school treat.  Henry said his day was "good".  Ralph said it was "ok" - I'm not sure why it was only "ok" and not more epic or awesome.

At bedtime Henry shared with me the songs his teacher taught the class today.  I am hopeful for a good year for him - he is off to a good start.  He also saw his kindgarten teacher today which made his day.

Ralph's first impression of his teacher was good as well but I didn't get many details.  He is taking the approach some days will be good; some will not be.

Ralph: 2 more teeth gone

Ralph had two teeth removed by the dentist last Friday (front right and the one next to it on the right). The boys are now tied for the number of baby teeth lost.  He has been encouraged to start wiggling the left front tooth so the race is on for that tooth to go next or the bottom left as the adult tooth is already exposed and almost up behind the baby tooth.

Ralph: Kid Pitch Baseball

Ralph participated in kid pitch baseball through the Y this past summer.  His coach was a UNL Student who is plans to be a math teacher and a coach when he graduates.  It was refreshing having a coach who was not a parent.   His team was made of kids from Kahoa, Riley, and ??   Ralph spent some innings pitching though out the season and would rotate to other positions as well.

The last game of the season was a rainout - these photos are from a game earlier in the season.

Ralph: Summer Basketball

Ralph participated in a summer basketball league through the Cornhusker Shooting Stars.   He practiced plenty and they particpated in 4 weekend touranments - playing up to 3 games in one day.  I compare his team to a group of misfits - which isn't because they were misfits but because they didn't know each other when they team was formed.  There were 2 others that had particpated in the skills clinics previously that Ralph knew but the rest of the team comprised of kids from Tecumseh and Clarks and places in between.
