1st day of School 2018-2019

Last Thursday was Back to School/Open House night.
A chance to meet the teachers and see the classrooms before the 1st day of school.

Henry has Mrs. Volnek for 3rd grade and his class is one of 2 classes in a portable this year.

Ralph has a "new to Kahoa" teacher who has taught at another Lincoln School for the past 9 years.  New to him this year are lockers though they do not lock at least he is being exposed to them.

Monday, August 13: the 1st day of school!
The 1st day of the last year of elementary school for Ralph! AND 3rd grade for Henry!

. .it usually takes a few shots to get a decent photo and this morning was no exception.  I think we provided some entertainment for some construction workers nearby who were waiting in their truck.

This has become "our spot" to take photos at school . . the last with both of them!

Both came out of school with positive comments. Ralph said he liked his teacher and Henry said "it was good".

Rita's has become "our spot" for the 1st day (and last day) after school treat!

Ralph the Jack O'Lantern?

As a result of a consulation visit to an orthodontist at the end of June, Ralph had some teeth pulled recently.  When we walked out of the orthodontist office I wasn't sure if it was going to be 4-5 teeth - when we heard from the dentist office the next morning we found out it was going to be 8 teeth over 2 visits.

The morning of the first visit -

AND after having 3 teeth pulled (the ones on the right side)

Those 3 teeth were not leaving anytime soon - roots were still super long -

A week later he had 5 more pulled out (the left side) . . . two small teeth; 3 with long roots.

Now we wait  . . . he still has some other teeth to lose but its too soon to pull those.  It will still be a few years most likely before he gets braces.

Ralph: Overnight Webelo Camp!

4th of July!

July 4th came a bit early this year as we lit fireworks the weekend before.  Uncle Nick was in town for the weekend.  There was a threat of rain in the evening so we did mostly day time fireworks (which was good because it did end up downpouring later in the evening).

The afternoon provided to be a bit windy though.  The boys tried to help block the wind . . .

By the next afternoon it was clear Henry had a scratch on his eye and by July 4th he was spending 24 hours with his eye patched and wasn't in the mood to go anywhere so Ralph and I ventured to the Waverly Parade . . .

Ralph had heard about the coin find at the Waverly Pool from some other kids and wanted to check it out so we headed back to Waverly after lunch for some pool fun.  He participated in the coin find and observed but did not participate in the belly flop contest.
