Ralph: Celebrating 8 1/2 years

Ralph turned 8 1/2 on this past Tuesday!   This photos was taken at Russ's Market where they had a Fall Festival earlier today.

Ralph is wearing size 8 or either S or M shorts depending on the brand.  Same with shirts - either a S or M depending on the brand.  He is size is true to his age.  Shoe size is . . .

His eating habits are similar to what they have been.  When he gets to pick its either cereal or mini pancakes.  I had been doing better about deciding what they will eat for supper rather than letting them pick but that has slid a bit.  He is usually agreeable to whatever is put in front of him, at least for awhile though I have heard "this is really good" when I least expected it - followed by "I'm done" seconds later with food still on his plate.

Ralph is lucky most subjects come easy to him.  He missed a few words the first time we went though this week's spelling list - scold/skoud, approach/appouch and growth/groth - but he does not have to work as hard as the 6th grade words he was doing last year.  There's still time for the spelling words to get more difficult.   Some handouts Ralph  has brought home lately show work on sentence structure including use of capital letters, commas, and ending punctuation, dividing words into syllables, antonyms, analogies, predicates, simple sentences, compound sentences, and complete sentences.

Math lately has consisted of adding/subtracting 2-4 digits and story problems.

He still reads any chance he gets.

He is taking part in a few chores - mostly emptying the dishwasher and carrying clothes upstairs.

His current activities are basketball twice a week, cub scouts twice a month for the den meetings and once a month for the pack meetings, and CCD once a week.  The boys are also in the middle of swimming lessons.

Ralph has found a few kids near his age around the neighborhood to play with now that I've let him be outside by himself a bit more (usually with Henry though).

He has been left alone once in the past few months; and another time he and Henry were left alone - both were under 15 minutes.  He would like to be able to walk home after school and not go to the Adventure Club but no  matter how old he gets that one will not happen while in elementary school.

As I put Ralph to bed last Monday night I was reminded he may be 8 1/2 but he still loves being read to but those days seem far and few between.   The nights we have time to read a book are good nights!
